ATHENS GOP Meeting on Monday, January 17th @ 6pm - Property Tax Forum

Country Inn & Suites: 236 Old Epps Bridge Road
THE ATHENS GOP MEETING HAS BEEN MOVED TO JANUARY 17TH!  Our January meeting will be held at our regular location at the same 6:00pm starting time.  And of course, food and drinks will be provided.

The Athens GOP would like to welcome Jeb Bradberry & David Dwyer as our guest speakers.  The forum should help A-CC citizens understand what is necessary for a successful tax appeal presentation.

Bradberry

Mr. Bradberry has been a member of the Athens-Clarke County Board of Equalization for 5 years and an Athens-Clarke County taxpayer for 38 years.  Mr. Bradberry will discuss generally and answer questions about the tax appeal process from the standpoint of the board.  Jeb began his career as a real estate agent in 2001 at Coldwell Banker Upchurch Reality and is active in several Clarke County civic organizations

Dwyer
David S. Dwyer has spent his career to-date creating and preserving value in real estate assets.  This has included investment and asset management ranging from individual properties for small investors to multi-billion dollar portfolios for institutional investors.   He recently returned to his hometown of Athens, GA to focus on four core efforts: Investment Management & Joint Venturestructures,  Asset Management & Strategy,  Real Estate & Operational Advisory (made more important given the current market conditions), and Traditional Transaction work including sales & leasing of commercial property.

Taxpayer's Return on Real Property Form
Regardless of the area of focus, David's strength is in the application of strategy and vision to real estate ownership in order to optimize value. This has often included financing restructures, re-positionings, development, and acquisition/disposition depending on market cycles and owners' needs.  His approach is to understand an owner's goals and objectives and then develop a strategy for their real estate whether it is a lease or sale of a single asset or a redevelopment strategy for an entire portfolio.  Along the way he uses 25 years of experience to assess local real estate and capital markets and determine the best way to optimize a property's value.  Previous projects include the turn-around of the Atlanta Financial Center,  repositioning of Ashwood Office Park (Atlanta),  and redevelopment of Wekiva Square (Orlando, FL).  His development experience includes NorthPark Town Center and Riverwood forJohn Portman,  The Ashwood Restaurant Park,  condominium projects in Buckhead and Midtown including The Wilburn House onPiedmont Park, and over 5,000 units of multi-family housing including extensive experience with tax-advantaged (bond and LIHTC) finance.  The advisory work here in Athens has included several assignments related to real value vis-a-vis the property tax assessment and he has successfully helped several owners improve their position and realize significant savings.

David has an undergraduate degree (Economics) from Duke University and an MBA in Real Estate & Entrepreneurship from UGA.  He has worked for Mutual of New York  Real Estate Investment Management,  The Portman Companies, Coro Real Estate Advisors,  and Cortland Partners.  He is currently Managing Director of Advisory Services with Atlas Real Estate Advisors here in Athens.  He is married to Sandy Dwyer and they have a 15-year old son, Henry Dwyer.
