Statement of Philosophy

Preamble
The Clarke County Republican Party believes in the American Dream - the promise of Freedom, Liberty, Justice and the pursuit of Individual prosperity.

As Republicans we also believe that:
—Free enterprise and the encouragement of individual initiative and achievement has fostered the greatest economic system on Earth.
—There should be equal opportunity and equal rights for all people regardless of age, sex, race or religious creed.
—A smaller, fiscally responsible government should trust its people to decide the courses of action that will ultimately create prosperity for all.
—Government services are best only when individual companies cannot perform the same services.
—Strong principles and morals should not be reduced to tactics.
—A strong national defense is necessary to maintain peace throughout the world.

We believe our nation is strong because of individuality, diversity, strong convictions and personal responsibility. As Republicans, we will continue to work diligently for the good of all citizens.

I am a Republican because…
—I believe the strength of the nation lies with the individualand that each person's dignity, freedom, ability, and responsibility must be honored.
—I believe in equal rights, equal justice, and equal opportunityfor all, regardless of race, age or disability.
—I believe government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.
—I believe the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individual or private organization, and that the best government is that which governs least.
—I believe the most effective, responsible, and responsive government is government closest to the people.
—I believe Americans must retain the principles that made us strong, while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.
—I believe that Americans value, and should preserve, our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom, and human rights throughout the world.
—Finally, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

Local issues and goals
—To be good citizens who are informed and effectively involved in our local government and community and to be alert to management of local government issues.
—Demand and expect quality and safety in our local schools.
—Promote the development of water and sewer systems to serve all citizens of Clarke County.
—Help to create a more business and citizen friendly government.
—Promote cleanliness in Athens Clarke County, Including leaf and limb pick up throughout the County.
—Encourage our local government to buy locally.
—Support our fire and police professionals to ensure the highest quality in fire and police protection.
—Demand equality from our local government for all of our citizens.
—Promote single family home ownership and encourage single family home owners to select Athens Clarke County as their permanent residence.
—Support a higher homestead exemption.
—Encourage desirable economic development to support a shrinking tax base.
—Maintain an equitable pension and benefit program to recruit and retain quality government employees.
—Support more efficiency in government to allow reduction in taxes.
—Support the paving and maintenance of all roads and streets in Athens Clarke County.
