Meet Eugene Yu on February 10th

The story of Eugene Yu is the story of the American dream. His is the life of an immigrant who came to the United States with nothing more than a dream and the promise of opportunity. The Yu family emigrated from South Korea to Augusta over 40 years ago and Eugene has called Georgia home ever since. After graduating from Butler High School in 1974, Yu became a Richmond County Fireman and attended Augusta College. Yu then enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as a Military Policeman. During his service, he married his bride of 34 years, Jonie. Upon returning home after honorably serving his country, Eugene became a Richmond County Sheriff’s Deputy. Jonie and Eugene raised two children who are now successful young adults living in Georgia. The Yus are longstanding members of Warren Baptist Church.

While he enjoyed serving his community as a first responder, the American Dream for Eugene could only be fulfilled by becoming an entrepreneur. He founded Continental Military Services, Inc., which supplies military grade armaments to our allies in the continuing fight to combat global terrorism.

Eugene believes an integral part of his American success story is his work in the community. He has proudly served as President of The Federation of Korean Associations, an organization with over 3 million active members nationwide that unites and governs all of the Korean Associations in the United States. He is widely recognized for his efforts to honor the sacrifices and service of American soldiers. Eugene has volunteered his time and money to travel across the country to personally present Freedom Medallions to more than 43,000 Korean War Veterans. Locally, he led the effort to finance and build the Korean War Memorial in downtown Augusta. Yu also serves as a member of the Newberry College Board of Trustees.

Eugene’s father moved his family to America with the dream of a better life. They followed the legal path to citizenship, a path that Eugene insists must be followed to this day. The vision of our Founding Fathers has been eroded by poll-driven politicians more concerned with lobbyists, consultants and party leaders than their constituents. Eugene believes the time has come to return to the values that made his success possible. It is time to take back our country and demand that the government stay out of the way and so that our citizens can flourish. Eugene Yu knows that the United States can once again be the shining city on the hill and he wants to preserve and defend the American Dream for his soon-to be-born grandchild and for generations to come.

Eugene Yu will be our guest speaker at the Feburary 10th meeting at the Country Inn & Suites.  Our meeting will begin at 6:00pm.
