March 12th Meeting: Making The Grade In Clarke County with guest Jim Geiser

Joel Aaron, with the Americans for Prosperity Foundation, joins local charter school expert Jim Geiser at the March 12th Athens GOP  meeting to discuss School Choice in Georgia along with a special screening of the acclaimed new documentary, "Making The Grade In GA: Educational Freedom and Justice for All."

This event promises to be instructive and engaging for anyone concerned about education in Athens and around the State as major education legislation makes its way through the process during the 2012 General Assembly session. The event is on Monday, March 12, 6-8 PM at the Country Inn and Suites located on Old Epps Bridge Road. The event is FREE and open to the public.

About Jim Geiser

Jim Geiser as been active in school choice and education reform strategy efforts for over 30 years.  He headed  the Big Buddy Program, a non-profit serving inner city children in at-risk traditional public schools in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  He helped found and served as principal for one of the first independent charter schools in Louisiana, a highly successful K-8 school serving a 96% population of at-risk students.

In  2008, Jim ran for school board in Clarke County with school choice as a major tenet of his campaign. He is the father of two middle-school students who are currently being home schooled.   Jim understands that the solutions to reforming public education are complex, but believes that school choice is central to the systemic change needed for true and sustainable reform for children from all demographics.

Note: This event will not focus on specific legislation but the concept of School Choice overall.
