The Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County is seeking applicants for a number of policy boards. Says the Unified Government’s web site:

Applicants must be Athens-Clarke County residents and registered to vote in Athens-Clarke County. A separate application must be completed for each position. The deadline for receiving applications is Friday, May 15, 2009.

Applications and information regarding interviews can be obtained from the Clerk of Commission’s office in Room 204 of City Hall. Completed forms may be delivered in person to City Hall Room 204 or mailed to: ACC Clerk of Commission, P.O. Box 1868, Athens GA 30603-1868.

The Mayor and Commission is tentatively scheduled to interview applicants between 4:00-9:00 p.m. on Wed., May 27 & Thurs., May 28. This will be the only date for interviews. After the deadline for receipt of applications, you will receive a letter assigning your interview time. If you will be out of town or otherwise unavailable on this date, let us know at the time you submit your application.

Appointments are tentatively scheduled to be made at the Mayor and Commission meeting of Tuesday, June 2. You will receive a letter from Mayor Davison following the date of this meeting.

Though they are appointed on a "competitive" basis, these policy boards represent opportunities to affect local government without running for an elected office. Applications may be downloaded here.
