Col. Mitchell Swan - Presentation on National Security Threats by
Mitchell was born in Boston and remained in that area
throughout his childhood, until 1983 when he left to attend Marquette
University’s Business School and NROTC Program in Milwaukee. He graduated from
Marquette in May 1987 with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and commissioned a
Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He would later earn his
MBA at Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Mitchell has been a resident of Athens for nearly 20 years.
He first came this area in 1988 as a student at the (then) Navy Supply Corps
School. He returned again in 1995 when he was brought back to serve as an instructor at the school; it was here his
three children, Matthew, Andrew and Samantha, were born. In 1999, upon
completion of his four year assignment, Mitchell chose to leave active duty service
to raise his family in Athens and pursue a career as an investment advisor. He
later returned to the Marines, as a reservist, in April 2001—five months prior
to 9/11. Since then he has been recalled
to active-duty and deployed away from the area—and his children—for a total of
5 ½ years. His last active duty assignment was as a staff officer for U.S.
Central Command, developing U.S. Policy for the Middle East.
A seasoned veteran and graduate of the U.S. Naval War
College, Mitchell understands U.S. foreign policy and the threats we face as a nation.
This experience, coupled with his financial background, gives him a unique
perspective on domestic and world events.
Monday's Meeting w/ Col. Mitchell Swan
Col. Swan will give a detailed presentation on national security threats to the United States and will give an update on the current conflicts with ISIS. Following the presentation, Col. Swan will take questions from the audience.
