Meet David Pennington
Persistence and perseverance are two words that can
describe David Pennington.
David is a job-creating businessman who has successfully grown and operated businesses employing and supporting hard working Georgians.
David is the founder of Advanced Insurance Strategies and is a third generation small business owner. He knows that businesses create jobs and grow the economy, not big government.
As an economics major and graduate from the University of Georgia, David has seen that job creation is not just about what is done on the local level but is also heavily influenced by what happens in the state capital.
Georgia has trailed the nation in economic performance for far too long. From 2001 thru 2011, the national economy grew 71% faster than the Georgia economy. Overall, the Georgia economy ranked 43rd among the states. As a job creator — David is determined to not just talk about job creation, but to truly grow Georgia's economy.
A principled conservative, David Pennington has a disdain for those who would hide behind a party label to raise taxes or increase wasteful government spending.
David truly believes government that governs least governs best. The freedoms for which our forefathers fought and our troops defend must be protected. David will work with individuals registered in any party, or no party at all, as long as they will join him in his efforts to promote economic prosperity and protect the traditions on which Georgia and the nation were founded.
As the Mayor of Dalton, David Pennington has practiced what he preaches. General property taxes have been reduced 28%; general fund spending has been reduced 19%; and the general fund surplus has been increased over 50%. To encourage entrepreneurship — business license fees have been reduced by up to 50%, and the permitting process streamlined to shorten the time to begin doing business.
Ranked 34th in the Tax Foundation's annual State Business Tax Climate index, Georgia can and must do better to compete with neighboring states for business. And, ranked 40th in personal taxes, Georgia can and must do better to help our families keep their hard-earned money. David believes in comprehensive tax reform that would make taxes simpler, fairer, and smaller.
While dramatically reducing taxes and improving the fiscal health of his community, David also improved the quality of life. A state of the art community center was dedicated in 2012; nearly one million dollars have been invested in historic preservation; and recreation space has greatly increased. As Mayor, David has proven you can be fiscally responsible while providing for a better future for Georgia citizens.
David believes integrity is one of the most important qualities a man or woman can possess. He operates Dalton's city meetings in the public, free for all to view. He believes in comprehensive ethics reform. And, David knows that public service is about serving the public, not advancing himself.
David donates his Mayor's salary to Dalton State College, funding nearly twenty-four scholarships to hard-working students to date.
David believes that his word is his bond. If he makes a promise, he intends to keep it. Too many politicians have been schooled in the ways of Washington where the next election, their next government paycheck, or their desire for political advancement becomes more important than the future generation. David Pennington is not seeking a title; he is seeking to improve Georgia and our way of life.
As we are raised in Georgia to understand, David knows family is a tremendous gift from God that serves as the bedrock for our society. His family tree goes back in Georgia to 1751. He and his wife, Pam, have raised their son and daughter in Georgia and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their first grandchild, with their daughter-in-law expecting later this month. David knows that life is precious and should be valued at the moment of conception.
The old saying goes that if you need something done, ask a busy person to do it. Well, David is that busy person.
Seeking to improve health care for Georgia's citizens, David is a Founding Member and current Board Member of the Northwest Georgia Healthcare Partnership and a past Board Member of the Hamilton Medical Center.
Working to improve and protect education for our kids, David is a Member and Past President of the Dalton Education Foundation, a Trustee of the Dalton State College Foundation, and a Director of the Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students.
Supporting job creation, David was a Director of the Hardwick Bank & Trust and is the former Chairman of the Dalton/Whitfield Chamber of Commerce. He is a Member and past President of the Rotary Club, for which he is also a Paul Harris Fellow, a Will Watt Fellow, and a Hue Thomas Fellow.
David is the past President and Director of Habitat for Humanity, helping provide homes for those who deserve them. He is also a member of First United Methodist Church where he serves on the Board of Trustees.
Recognition is appreciated, but it has to be earned. David has been recognized with the Rotary Guardian of Ethics Award in 2013, inducted into the Northwest Georgia Business Hall of Fame in 2013, presented with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award in 2012, received the Dalton Rotary Club Lee Arrendale Vocational Excellence Award in 2011, given the Carlton "Corky" Kell Award for contributions to Georgia athletes and coaches in 2010, and received an award from the Dalton/Whitfield Chamber of Commerce as Business Leader of the Year in 1995.
David is not the kind of guy that let's grass grow under his feet. In fact, he is a competitive runner — having run road races in Georgia. David has not tired as new challenges have confronted him in business or civic life. Just as he does in a race, David takes the next step toward a solution and success.
David has now taken the first step toward solving some of Georgia's most pressing problems. He asks that you join him as we build a more prosperous Georgia for our future generations.
